120-Minute Data Fire Protection | Water Resistant | High-Capacity Data Safe
The Phoenix Data Commander DS4620 Series is a specialist high-capacity data safe designed to protect large volumes of computer backup media and other heat-sensitive data storage against fire and water damage.
Independently tested to the demanding Swedish NT Fire 017-120dis standard, the Data Commander provides an exceptional 120 minutes of fire protection for computer backup tapes and specialist data media.
With twin water-resistant seals, fire and impact testing from 9.1 metres and capacities ranging from 143 to 457 litres, the Data Commander is particularly well suited to businesses and organisations protecting substantial quantities of critical offline data.
Available in three sizes, with a choice of Key, Electronic or Fingerprint locking.
120-Minute Specialist Data Fire Protection
Computer backup media can be permanently damaged at temperatures considerably below those that would destroy conventional paper documents.
The Phoenix Data Commander is therefore specifically designed and independently tested for the more demanding requirements of specialist data protection.
Tested to:
Swedish NT Fire 017-120dis
the entire Data Commander range provides:
120 Minutes of Fire Protection for Computer Backup Media
This makes it particularly suitable for protecting heat-sensitive media including:
- Computer backup tapes
- LTO tapes
- DAT tapes
- DLT tapes
- CD-ROM media
- Other appropriate specialist data-storage media
For organisations maintaining critical offline backups, the Data Commander provides a purpose-designed environment rather than relying upon the higher internal temperatures permitted within a conventional paper fire safe.
Water-Resistant Data Protection
Fire is not the only threat to valuable computer media during a major incident.
Firefighting operations can expose the contents of a building to substantial quantities of water, potentially damaging data even where it survives the initial fire.
The Data Commander therefore incorporates twin water-resistant seals, creating an airtight, water-resistant inner compartment around the protected computer media.
This provides an important additional level of protection for critical data during a fire or other emergency.
Fire & Impact Tested from 9.1 Metres
The Phoenix Data Commander has also been subjected to a demanding 9.1-metre fire and impact drop test.
This simulates the severe impact that could occur if the safe were to fall through the burning floors of a building during a major fire.
Combined with its 120-minute data fire protection and water-resistant construction, this makes the Data Commander particularly well suited to business-critical disaster recovery and offline backup storage.
£2,500 Cash / £25,000 Valuables Rating
In addition to its specialist data protection, Phoenix recommends the Data Commander for an overnight risk of:
£2,500 Cash
or
£25,000 Valuables
This allows smaller amounts of cash or other valuable items to be securely stored where required.
The Data Commander should, however, primarily be considered a specialist high-capacity data fire safe, rather than a high-security burglary safe.
Customers whose primary requirement is protecting substantial amounts of cash, jewellery or other high-value assets should consider one of SafeFort's independently certified EN 1143-1 security safe ranges.
Key, Electronic or Fingerprint Locking
Each Data Commander size is available with a choice of three locking systems.
Key Lock – K
Fitted with a high-quality key lock and supplied with two keys.
Electronic Lock – E
Fitted with an advanced high-security electronic lock with a clear LED display.
Functions include:
- Dual Control
- Hidden Code
- Scrambled Code
This provides convenient access together with additional control over authorised users.
Fingerprint Lock – F
Fingerprint models feature an advanced touchscreen keypad and biometric fingerprint lock.
Functions include:
- Fingerprint access
- Touchscreen keypad
- Clear LED display
- Battery indicator
- Internal alarm
- Multiple User Codes
- Dual Mode
- Hidden Code
- Scrambled Code
- Up to 32 registered fingerprints
The Fingerprint option is particularly useful in commercial environments where several authorised members of staff may require convenient access.
Three High-Capacity Sizes
The Data Commander is available in three substantial sizes, allowing storage capacity to be matched to the volume of data requiring protection.
Pull-Out Media Drawers
Unlike a conventional fire safe, the Data Commander is specifically configured around the practical storage of computer media.
Each model includes dedicated pull-out media drawers, providing organised and easily accessible storage for backup tapes and other compatible media.
Each individual media drawer measures approximately:
60 × 370 × 397mm
and can accommodate approximately:
-
42 LTO tapes
-
116 DAT tapes
-
42 DLT tapes
-
94 CD-ROMs
This modular arrangement makes it considerably easier to organise and retrieve large quantities of business backup media.
Height-Adjustable Shelving
In addition to its dedicated media drawers, each Data Commander incorporates height-adjustable shelving.
This allows the interior to be configured around different types of media and storage requirements rather than restricting the safe to one particular format.
The combination of adjustable shelving and dedicated pull-out drawers makes the Data Commander particularly versatile for businesses maintaining several generations or types of backup media.
Automatic Slam-Shut Locking
The DS4621 and DS4622 incorporate automatic slam-shut locking.
This helps ensure the cabinet is securely locked when the door is closed, an important practical feature in busy commercial environments where authorised staff may regularly access stored backup media.
Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery
Maintaining secure offline backups can form an important part of a wider business continuity and disaster-recovery strategy.
The Data Commander provides physical protection for critical backup media against:
- Fire
- Heat
- Water exposure
- Severe structural impact
- Unauthorised access
This makes it particularly suitable for businesses and organisations where loss of historic or operational data could result in significant disruption.
GDPR & Secure Data Storage
The Data Commander is also well suited to organisations storing backup media containing confidential or personal information.
Keeping physical backup media securely stored and protected can form part of an organisation's wider approach to data security and GDPR compliance.
The Data Commander is therefore particularly relevant to professional environments including offices, financial organisations, healthcare providers, educational institutions and other businesses maintaining important offline records.
Substantial Commercial Construction
The Data Commander is a substantial specialist fire safe, with weights ranging from approximately 340kg to 753kg.
Its double-wall steel body and door incorporate specialist fire-resistant barrier material together with an internal protective door.
Given the considerable size and weight of the range, careful consideration should be given to building access, floor loading and final positioning.
SafeFort professional delivery and installation is recommended, particularly for the larger DS4622 and DS4623 models.
White RAL 9003 Finish
The Data Commander is finished in a high-quality, scratch-resistant White RAL 9003 paint.
Its clean professional appearance makes it particularly suitable for offices, IT departments, server environments, records departments and dedicated disaster-recovery facilities.
SafeFort Recommendation
The Phoenix Data Commander DS4620 is SafeFort's recommended Phoenix range where the priority is protecting large quantities of critical computer backup media against a serious fire.
Unlike conventional paper fire safes, the Data Commander has been specifically tested to the demanding NT Fire 017-120dis data standard, providing an exceptional two hours of specialist data fire protection.
The DS4621 provides an excellent starting point for organisations requiring dedicated high-capacity data protection, with 143 litres of storage and capacity for up to 294 LTO tapes.
For larger backup libraries, the DS4622 increases capacity to 228 litres and up to 462 LTO tapes.
The flagship DS4623 provides an exceptional 457 litres of specialist storage, with two internal compartments, ten pull-out media drawers and capacity for up to 924 LTO tapes.
Compared with the Phoenix Datacare DS2000, the Data Commander significantly increases both capacity and fire duration, moving from up to 90-minute protection in the current Datacare range to a consistent 120 minutes across every Data Commander model.
Compared with the Phoenix Data Combi DS2500, the distinction is equally important. The Data Combi is designed for organisations wanting to protect a mixture of paper documents, data media and smaller valuables, whereas the Data Commander is a dedicated specialist solution optimised for large-volume computer media storage.
For businesses where offline backups form an important part of their disaster-recovery and business-continuity strategy, the Phoenix Data Commander DS4620 provides one of the highest levels of dedicated data fire protection available within the SafeFort range.
Phoenix's £2,500 cash / £25,000 valuables ratings are manufacturer recommendations and should not be interpreted as guaranteed insurance cover. The Data Commander is primarily designed for specialist data fire protection. Individual insurers may apply different requirements according to contents, location and installation.
